Abdullah Ibrahim, Don Cherry & Carlos Ward - The Third World-Underground [Vinyl]

This live jazz album brings together Abdullah Ibrahim (Dollar Brand), Don Cherry and Carlos Ward, recorded at Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen in 1972. This one-disc vinyl reissue features remastered audio, the original artwork and a booklet with new bilingual liner notes.

The performance blends jazz with South African rhythms and global influences, bringing together Ibrahim’s piano, Cherry’s exploratory approach and Ward’s alto saxophone. Originally released in Japan in 1974, the album became a sought-after recording among collectors and fans of Don Cherry and Dollar Brand.

Across seven pieces, the trio develops a fluid, collective musical conversation. Standout songs include “Don’s Song” and “Bra Joe From Kilimanjaro.”
