Description
This definitive 3CD set presents the complete known recordings from Sonny Rollins' pivotal March 1959 European tour, compiled for the first time in a single collection. Digitally remastered for superior sound quality, this release captures the legendary saxophonist at a turning point in his career. Featuring rare and hard-to-find performances, including a previously unissued concert recorded in Frankfurt, the set showcases Rollins' dynamic improvisational mastery with bassist Henry Grimes and drummers Pete La Roca, Joe Harris, and Kenny Clarke. The Aix-en-Provence concert with Kenny Clarke marks Rollins' final recorded performance before his self-imposed three-year musical sabbatical, making this collection historically significant. It includes the only known recordings of Rollins performing "A Weaver of Dreams", "Lady Bird", "Cocktails for Two", and "Stay as Sweet as You Are".
