Geirr Tveitt - Sonata Nr. 29 / Volksweisen / Lieder [CD]

Leif Ove Andsnes presents a compelling recording of Norwegian composer Geirr Tveitt (1908-1981) on this SIMAX Classics CD. The album features Tveitt's Piano Sonata No. 29 'Sonate etere,' alongside solo piano works from Fifty Folk Tunes from Hardanger, Op. 150, and a selection of Songs performed with Leif Ove Andsnes' sister, singer Solveig Andsnes.

This recording captures the ambitious work that Andsnes championed in 35 concerts across Europe and North America in 2024 and 2025, which he described as 'the most ambitious solo piano piece by any Norwegian composer.' The album offers a deep dive into Tveitt's surviving oeuvre, much of which was lost in a devastating fire in 1970.
